Mnemosyne McKay.

I am an artist and visual reporter blessed to live at the close of an empire.

The themes of my art include rage, disgust, love and femininity. My wish is to be truly alive and deeply human in everything I make, using my hands and time-honored methods.

In my work I try to use every choice - from material to setting - to reinforce my original thesis. Materials might include but are not limited to; oil, porcelain, print, digital tools, nostalgia, prayers, memory, epoxy, glitter, rock, paper and scissors. In my view, the medium should match the message, so I use many mediums.

I also try to reference those artists that have come before me - to hold a conversation with art history. The term “art history” includes great renaissance painters, performance artists, trash magicians, gentle scoutmasters who loved to whittle, and women who taught me how to sew. I look at this history as a great cocktail party, at which we are all trying to collaborate and add and dance and one up each other, until we reach a greater truth.

I hope you like my work. I hope it reflects feelings that you might feel yourself. I hope it articulates or makes useful metaphors for things you have struggled to pinpoint in your own life. I have very much enjoyed making it for you. Thank you for taking the time to look at it.
